For my Translation & Transmission Project, the topic I chose is Premarital sex, and then it begins the journey of researching...

Wider Context.

Premarital Sex, in other word, is Sex before Marriage. A topic that has been a taboo to many religions and conservative societies. But just because it’s been a topic that people cast out, due to its sensitivity, it doesn’t stop others from refraining from it. In an article based in America, where Chasity and purity in one’s pants was heavily implemented by learning abstinence. With such repression only makes people want to do it more. 95% of Americans did not wait to give their spouses their first time, which defeats the point of the teachings. (Filipovic, 2012) And with that being said, people are actually quite opened about their sexual desire before marriage, which leads to opinions that aren’t widely “popular” about premarital sex. In a research based in Iran where they asked 41 women aged 18 to 35 years about their thoughts on sex before marriage. And the qualitative data that was received from this interview from the women were surprising but also made sense in a way that this is how sex can influence a person individually or between lovers. On of the data collected states that virginity is an outdated concept to view a woman’s purity, having your hymen intact or detach does not equal to the Chasity of one person, as one could engage in sexual behavior without involving vaginal contact or if one’s hymen was damaged in an accident, which concludes that being a decent woman does not mean having your virginity. Another participant also stated that sex plays an important role in a relationship in order to have a successful relationship with their partner. To test their compatibility, not only mentally but also physically in order to be satisfied with their future as husband and wife. (Rahmani, 2016) On the other hand, not all people agree that premarital sex is seen as beneficial, but they have experienced it and concluded it as a traumatic event that could lead to many unforeseen or unfortunate results. One of the main problems that premarital sex causes are sexually transmitted disease (STD), where most of the sickness won’t be cured easily and if worst comes to worst, when you get AIDS or HIV. Moving to another problem caused by premarital sex is unwanted pregnancy, where responsibility plays a huge role in bringing up a child, which causes unmatured choices to get an abortion or dumping the baby after being born. Proceeding to the next cause, where problems between couples would surface when a partner wasn’t being honest about their sexual experience to comply with the other partner’s belief on sex. This would cause a strain to the relationship filled with dishonesty which could cause divorce. (Lotino, 2013) But at the end of the day, even though there are many issues caused by premarital sex as told by the experienced, but we can’t assume that their experience will be the one that we will go through. Cause what we could do is learn to take proper measures for our own safety.

After that, I've narrowed my topic down and also will start to look into the research methodologist to collect the data for the infographic.

Mindmap of the Specific Context

Specific Context

After researching all the articles and interviews about premarital sex, I’ve concluded in focusing the project on one particular sub-topic that brought up my interest which was judgement. No doubt that everyone has their opinion, but when it comes to something as private as your sex life, and for god knows how people get the information from, there is no running away from the speculation from those people. And those judgements are mostly influenced by the beliefs based on religion, beliefs and society. As told by many religions, having sex before marriage is a sin, and was taught to refrain from engaging in such activities or they will be punished for they are not pure as they were before. And beliefs are passed down by the surroundings that influence their perspective on the topic itself. (The Bible on Premarital Sex and Sexual Morality, 2020) But what bothers me the most in this context is people of the society still assumes most people engaging in premarital sex are involved with money. And with that news, people will presume that folks that did sex before marriage are cheap and are willing to sell their bodies at any price. {Romm, 2014} And with that being said, I want to change how it’s viewed by the society.

Research Methodologist I've planned to use:
