As a consumer, we never knew how much power we have when we pay for products and services. Even though a lot of us know that some of the companies aren’t getting the products a sustainable way, we still went ahead and purchase on their product. And the reason why we do what we do is just because we weren’t being mindful. Mindful of our belief, our choice of society, we hold the responsibility to change the way we live by supporting what we buy from who we buy. This is how it works, if you support the company that contributes to global warming by creating their products, and you as a person that supports green living didn’t realize that your favorite snack was created by using heat that creates carbon that would harm the eco-system. And just by buying unconsciously, you too who’d have no intention of whatsoever in destroying the environment has contributed. So, with the power that you have in your wallet, you could’ve used it to vote on what kind of world you want to live in. That’s how powerful consumerism is. And to be a responsible consumer, we need to be conscious of who we’re buying from. My groupmates and I created a mindmap based on the TED Talk given by Diane Ridgway about Conscious Consumerism.
