This week’s Co-exist we talk about this year’s ICAD Design Day and Lockdown Art Challenge. Since World Design Day was around the corner, the ico-D (International Council of Design) has a theme for World Design Day which is “Be Professional”, to ask question about what make a Designer Professional and how. So, for the theme of this year’s ICAD Design day is “REITARATE BEARINGS”, which means to have a clear path of what your designs are by understanding your direction. So, which concluded with a Manifesto by ICAD which are Ethical Design, Industrial Relations, Multidisciplinary Practice and Competitive Edge.

And for the Lockdown Challenge we’ll be focusing on Competitive Edge because we’re year 2 students. And each group (3 Graphic Students & 3 Interior Student) will be assigned to a question that is distributed. These are the questions that was given:

1. Harvesting a Learning Curve from Start to Submission: How does taking part in design competitions prove essential for design students for their career advancement?

2. Collaboration vs. Competition: Should we foster collaborative creative projects over design competitions?

3. Staging the Dynamacy of Competitions: Why and how does the nature of competition seem relevant in the world today?

4. Design and Prejudice: How should design competition entry fees be better recognized than singling out participants?

5. (Making-A-Difference) M-A-D Design: Should the focus of competition participation be on winning or the learning experience?

6. Cause and Effects through Feedback: How can post-competition feedback be communicated to create a well-rounded learning exposure to participants?

After the briefing, we were told to assemble ourselves into a group. Then we have the question that was given which was “Collaboration vs. Competition: Should we foster collaborative creative projects over design competitions?”. After discussing and researching we will pe presenting in a video essay or a Pecha Kucha format, dateline will be by next week.
